Month 4 of My Stroke Recovery – Step by Step

In my previous blog, Month 3 of My Recovery – Step by Step, I shared how my recovery was going at that time. Now, another month has passed, and I notice that things are changing again.

Busy Environments and Sensory Overload Are Still Difficult

Busy environments and crowds still take a lot of energy. The many stimuli around me can be overwhelming, especially when there are lots of people talking or moving around me.

After a busy moment, I need extra time to rest and recover. I am learning to recognise my limits and to accept that taking a break is an important part of my recovery.

I continue step by step, at my own pace.

My Speech Is Improving Through Speech Therapy

My speech is slowly improving. I practise a lot, both during speech therapy and at home.

This progress gives me a sense of calm and satisfaction. Being able to communicate is important to me, and it feels good to notice that the exercises are helping.

There is still work to do, but I keep practising step by step.

My Memory and Concentration Are Slowly Improving

I also notice some improvement in my memory and concentration. However, progress is slow, especially when I need to concentrate properly on something.

Some things are getting easier, but I still need time and patience. I cannot expect everything to improve at once.

I keep working on it step by step.

Everyday Activities Still Take a Lot of Energy

My daily activities are becoming a little easier, but they still take a lot of energy. I regularly need to take breaks to recover.

I am learning that I cannot do everything in one go. Rest is not a setback; it is necessary to keep moving forward.

That is why I continue step by step.

I Want to Manage My Own Household Again

One of the things I would like to do again is manage my own household. I want to be able to do everyday tasks independently, just as I used to.

At the moment, keeping an overview is still difficult. Physical tasks, such as vacuuming and dusting, can leave me completely exhausted.

It can be frustrating when something that once seemed simple now takes so much effort. I have to learn to divide tasks into smaller steps and allow myself enough time to rest.

I am working towards this step by step.

I Am Gaining More Confidence in My Body

I am gradually learning to trust my body again. I notice that some things are going better, and that gives me confidence.

At the same time, I sometimes feel frustrated when something does not work the way I want it to. Recovery does not always progress at the pace I would like.

I try to be patient with myself and keep going step by step.

I Am Proud of What I Can Do

Even though many things still take effort, I am proud of what I can do. It does not matter whether it is something small or something bigger.

Every improvement counts. Sometimes I have to remind myself to look at what is going well instead of focusing only on what is still difficult.

Those little moments of progress give me the motivation to continue step by step.

Another Month Further

Another month of recovery has passed. I notice progress in my speech, memory, concentration and daily activities, but I also know that I still have a long way to go.

Busy environments, physical effort and keeping an overview remain challenging. I have to listen to my body, take breaks and accept that recovery takes time.

I want to become more independent again and learn to trust my body. I will continue working towards that, step by step.

That, too, is part of rebuilding.
